SouthCol Advisors to Serve as Investment Consultant to The Bergman Foundation, A New Funder of Innovative Programs in the Arts and Education
NAPLES, FL. May 3, 2021 – SouthCol Advisors, an investment consulting firm specializing in working with mission-based foundations and endowments, has been named as investment consultant to The Bergman Foundation.
“We are fortunate to have had parents who were enthusiastic supporters of our careers in the arts. It is a gift that we are determined to share with others,” said Elliot Bergman, the oldest of the Bergman children and president of the Foundation. “We believe that Jim Lumberg and SouthCol understand our passion and will help us make a sustained and long-term impact.”
“SouthCol is honored to serve the Bergman Foundation,” said James Lumberg, the firm’s founder. “We are excited to help advance its mission of supporting the arts by providing effective and mission-aligned stewardship of the Foundation’s resources.”
Mandate to Support Artists Across Disciplines
The Bergman Foundation has a broad mandate to support artists across a range of disciplines through innovative, high impact philanthropy.
As its first initiative, the Foundation established The Bergman Prize for Poetry, which will be awarded at the end of May. Louise Glck, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize for Literature, is judging the competition. The winner will receive a cash prize and have their book published.
Commenting on the Prize, board member Bennet Bergman said: “I know how hard it is for an emerging poet to get started. The Bergman Poetry Prize is meant to honor the encouragement and support that I experienced growing up and help propel other artists forward.”
Supporting Values and Objectives
SouthCol will provide The Bergman Foundation with fiduciary governance consulting and customized, portfolio construction that reflects the Foundation’s values and social impact objectives. SouthCol utilizes the Envestnet integrated technology platform for its research, analytics, and market intelligence.
“The Bergman Foundation’s mission is incredibly important to SouthCol, both personally and professionally,” said Mr. Lumberg. “Our goal – always – is to empower our clients to achieve their mission, with fiduciary oversight and investment services that consistently mirror the heart of the institution. That is our North Star.”
